Back to School. Usually this likely makes you think of picking out an outfit for your first day or packing your backpack with supplies. This year, depending on where you live, it looks more like checking Zoom to make sure you have the latest updates installed and a good desk area prepared. Just like everything else in 2020, back to school season is going to be different and probably a little difficult. CHRIS 180 is looking to help ease the difficulty of virtual learning by providing school supplies to students across Metro Atlanta.
CHRIS 180’s Vice President of School Based Mental Health, Brittney Walters, LCSW, echoes the difficulties that students are going to face. “Kids should be gearing up to return to school, meeting their new teachers, and hugging their friends after a long summer break. Instead, they’re preparing to start a new school year virtually and we know that this reality is producing a lot of anxiety and worry across grade levels and for our parents, especially.” She also shares what a difference providing school supplies can make for students whose families don’t have the resources to provide what they need to succeed. “So many of the families we serve are under-resourced and don’t have the ability to fully equip their children with the school supplies that will help them be successful academically. Even though they’ll be doing virtual learning, they still need pens, pencils, notebooks, folders, calculators, and something to keep their supplies in etc. to stay organized. Helping kids feel excited about getting organized for a new type of start to school is an incredible example of a small gesture that will have a large impact.”
Whether it is typical supplies like pencils and paper or 2020 supplies like headphones and face masks, CHRIS 180 wants to bridge the gap for students in need. Students shouldn’t have to worry about having the supplies they need. With your support, CHRIS 180 can make sure that students are fully focused on school by providing them with supplies they need to succeed.
